Are you seeing elevated mandelic acid in kids who vape or smoke pot?

I’m working with a young man who has very low HVA, VMA, and HIAA.

    Mandelic is elevated.

No tox test yet, so don’t know what styrene, acrylonitrile, acrylamide, or acrolein are doing – but suspect all are elevated.

    Hair shows elevated AL.

Lots of symptoms consistent with elevated acetylcholine – don’t think we talked about what to do about this yet.

Did advise to quit both cigs and vaping. He won’t let go of the pot. Started 5HTP, b6, omegas, gsh(elevated 2- hydroxybuteric.

Lifestyle vs SNP- just not sure yet.
    Did find mycotoxin-don’t remember which.
Is ochratoxin the only mycotoxin that interferes with dopamine production?

    Thank you,
    Teri

    Teri,
I do not have that population of patients. But, I am starting to see a trend with the following 4 chemicals from the GPL-TOX and smoking exposure:

-Styrene (which could be linked to Mandelic on the OAT)
    -Acrylonitrile
    -Acrylamide
    -Acrolein

The thing with Acetylcholine elevations is to go after inhibitors of Acetylcholinesterase, e.g. Aluminum, Organophosphates.

Ochratoxin interferes with Phenylalanine hydroxylase. Their is a Fusarium mycotoxin called fusaric acid that inhibits DBH. There might be others too, but definitely fusaric acid.

    Sincerely,
    Dr. Woeller
