I have found that the marker #58 (NAC) is almost always very low on most of my OAT patients. Do you find this a common finding and question the significance of this low value?

I also find that marker #54 (Ascorbic) is almost always very low.

Would appreciate your comments on these two markers?

    Thank you.

    John,
Yes. These are common findings. The ascorbic acid is often low and the main reason is because its metabolized quickly. The general recommendation is to take vitamin C multiple times throughout the day, at least twice, but perhaps even three times daily.

Regarding the NAC. This information is coming from biochemist Dr. Pratt at Great Plains. The NAC is only significant when elevated. It’s either elevated because someone is taking NAC as a supplement – which in that case is normal. The other reason is that NAC is not being converted to glutathione (check pyroglutamic levels and see if its high). It’s assumed if the NAC level is in the lower range that it is adequately converting to glutathione. You could still see high pyroglutamic with a low NAC, but that would indicate the conversion reaction between NAC and glutathione is intact.

    Sincerely,
    Dr. Woeller
