    Re: Methylation
why wouldnt you just check homocysteine? if its below x level, then youre ok
what is the healthy norm for homocysteine?
if its below that level you dont need support there?
and also just check B12 intracellular and folate with the Scell MNT – if they are in healthy norms youre ok
    thanks

    Lorraine,
Checking homocysteine is one option, but its only on marker. Also, there are multiple ends that can influence homocysteine such as methionine synthase activity (linked to folate cycle), betaine-homocysteine methyl-transferase activity and glutathione and taurine production via transsulfuration. Also, high Adenosine on the back-side of methylation can affect homocysteine too. Even homocysteine in the mid to upper 1/3 of normal range doesn’t rule out that there could be issues in other areas linked to methylation. I like the SpectraCell test too. Another level to all of the things we do from an integrative medicine standpoint is genetics. A normal level of B12 (and sometimes other nutrients) doesn’t always explain the ongoing biochemical dependency that a enzyme complex needs to function optimally.
