Diatomaceous Earth

    Hi Dr Woeller,

I just got a 20 lb bag of food grade Diatomaceous Earth (Silica). My plan was to use it for my cat but I am intrigued with regards to the reports for anti-microbial activity and other health uses.

One remark I read was that the reason why it has anti-microbial/anti-parasitic properties is because it “dehydrates” pathogens, which is why they suggested to drink adequate amounts of water when using it.

What do you think about DE and using it for detoxification?

    Michael,
I have had some parents use DE for their kids with suspected worm infections. The difficult thing is none of the kids had documented worms, just suspected so there was no proof of eradication. It probably does help though. As far as detoxification I doubt much of it gets absorbed and only has an influence on the digestive system.

    Thanks Dr Woeller.

I have this huge bag so I will experiment with it. I am still looking for another nutritional source of silica. I have a patient using a choline-bonded silicone for “collagen creation” but I am not sure if I like the product…
